It is our heart and not our performance that is important to God. Many times we loose contact with the condition of our heart. We must constantly come before God and ask the question - “Is there anything in my heart that is displeasing to You, or anything that will influence my relationship with You?”
God’s expectation is not a perfect performance, but a perfect heart - a heart that quickly recognises anything that offends.
God wants us with a perfect heart – people that come to God in repentance and say “Lord forgive me, and help me to live right for You”
Prov 4:23 says “Guard your heart with all diligence for out of it will flow the issues of life”. To guard your heart is to constantly keep watch over your heart to prevent anything that will cause hardness of heart or wrong motive.
We need to regularly ask ourselves, “how are our motives?” Do we do things to look good in the eyes of man? Do we do things for our own gain and pleasure? Do we do things to please God and those we love?
To be a person with a right heart, means we constantly need to check our attitude as we go through situations, and make sure we react in a correct manner.
There may be times where we have to say that the problem lies with us. If this is the case, be prepared to face the truth for what it is, to acknowledge it before others, then come to an understanding on how to change things.
Ask God to help you to die daily to the things in your life that will effect your heart and bring you into reproach with those around you and with God.
Prayer
Lord, help me to live with a heart that is right toward you. Search me and try my thoughts and see if there be any wicked way in me.
